today was one of the longest sundays of my life...

woke up at 6.15am..met cheryl at bishan mrt @ 0715, n headed to holy trinity in tampinese 4 the jumble sale..met spyke, louis n his gf, priscilla there. holy trinity was having this "food n fun-fair" kinda thing and there were many food n games stalls...there were also other stalls selling souvenirs; our 'competitors', so to speak..we set up a stall, consisting of one wooden table and a couple of chairs, and displayed our wares which ranged from scented candles to kids' socks, and even wine bottle holders...

before getting down to work, i accompanied cheryl to the columbarium where she went to pay her aunt a visit. after getting her a single orchid flower, (we had to buy a whole bouquet coz they didnt sell the individual flower, so she ended up with a whole bouquet) when flower placements were actually forbidden aniwae, haha..

returned to the stall. after a while, it became pretty obvious that we werent gonna sell much stuff just by sitting there, so cheryl n i grabbed a little rattan basket, (which she had brought) loaded up a few of our samples and proceeded to try "street-selling". after an initial encouraging success (we managed to sell a copy of bo sanchez's self-help book), we incurred an incredible 10+ rejections/brush-offs, which was pretty demoralising...

we walked around a bit more..basically jus hanging around cos we knew that it was not much use approaching ppl, esp since it soon became apparent that ppl were taking elaborate measures to avoid crossing our path =P it got pretty depressing after half an hr or so..so we decided to go to the chapel to pray 1st.. i prayed to the Lord to be with us as we did our street sale; to give us the words to say, the right things to do..basically i just left it up to him to work his miracle in us..

true enough, after we left the chapel, there was a strange inspiration to immediately pick up that basket n continue selling..we successfully closed several deals, including the sale of a package of "office supplies" for $10..it was really amazing! later on when we returned to the stall for refreshments, it was with a half empty basket n a triumphant smile (and pockets stuffed with notes too, where cheryl was concerned) ...truly, this was a clear testament to the power of prayer!

later on, when john, gerri, sheryln n fonz arrived (the latter two bringing the hand-made grottos with them) we attended mass...oh yea, dat was a little after watching father tim get dunked for a hundred dollars by some guy called herbert ;) the theme of the mass, interestingly, was Mission Sunday - abt spreading the gospel message. i felt kinda proud when fr tim mentioned us during his homily ("for example, some youth these days, even in singapore, going on mission trips to the philippines, india..") it made me feel really proud to be part of this mission team, n i really hope i can make a useful contribution to the group, esp during the trip itself.

by the time we returned to ctk, had late lunch, it was about 5pm..rushed home, showered n headed back to church 4 the confirmation mass - celebrated by arch-bishop greg yong; edward n sharon got confirmed..i later joined sharon n her parents for dinner at this cool restaurant..quite paiseh, cos they paid 4 mi meal..hehe. yepz..dats abt all 4 my sunday..nothing much happened..haha! like, for sure..

raneth hopped off at 11:50 pm
